Stefana Broadbent: How the Internet enables intimacy

The title of this TED presentation is somewhat misleading. It is not about Internet, or only Internet.

She did start off with some examples about how people like to engage with a small group of people all the time; and with the current technology, we are able to do it better than ever. However, the main point of her final argument is: "Should we be allowed to engaged with our personal life while being in an 'institution' ?"

I know some people might pick on how she thought a bus driver should be OK to carry a cell. But that's not the point.

I mean, personal engagement is part of the physical needs. In order to focus at work and perform, we need the right work/life balance. Of course the actually executions have to be depending on the situation, but the principle is simple: I see that as the same level as letting the staff to the bathroom.

And more importantly, the fact is, according to the statistics (that she has collected, assuming they are unbias), people are naturally doing that anyway. Well, obviously you can tell I am already on her side, coz otherwise I won't post this video at 10:30am in the morning on a weekday. =p

By the way there is an ad by IBM at the end of the video. Quite interesting, but a bit scary.

Did You Know 4.0

This is a video response to the presentation "Shift Happens" I posted 2 years ago. This time the main theme is not on education but on social media and newfound communication technologies. I guess it is part of the promotion for the Media Convergence Forum held in late Oct in NYC by The Economist.

To avoid people accusing for its ambiguous source of information, this round they have prepared a list of reference at the end. Although some of them are still unverified sources, at least it is better than to view some exciting numbers and figures but not sure if they are facts or just buffs.

Anyway, it was a pity that most of the data are U.S. based. Nonetheless, I like the visual impact of it, and certainly it forces my mind to freeze and ponder a bit after the 5 minutes video ends.

I found this video while searching for the term "Smarter Supply Chain". It is about a bunch of IBMers speak about how current infrastructure constrains change whereas a dynamic infrastructure enables companies to respond quickly to change:

Declaimer(1): I don't associate with IBM in any aspect what so ever.
Declaimer(2): Personally I haven't met any IBMer looks/sounds like this, yet.

Previously on Facebook I was tagged for a note-topic "Fifteen movies that will always stick with you". I spent quite a little bit of a time to think about the list, and these are the 15. Please note that they are the one it "sticks" with me for all these years, but not necessary the best.

Since I would like to stick to the rules (although I have already cheated a bit by adding a few "series" on the list), so many of my favourites (but perhaps not as sticky as these one) didn't make to the list. For example, the Terminator series, Top Gun, Transformer, The Sixth Sense, The Dark Knight, The Thirteenth Floor etc should have made the list but somehow they are not as sticky as the others, in terms of how they stay in my brain for a few years or more once I've watched them... ...

Using Forms in Google Docs

Seriously, I have never thought of using Google Docs spreadsheet like this. By combining the real time online form and the spreadsheet behind it as a online database, this in fact becomes such a powerful adminstration and research tool!
